Andaz Mayakoba debuts Sotavento Beachfront Restaurant

Shipwreck-Inspired Beachfront Restaurant Bolsters Diverse Dining Experience at Luxury Mexican Resort

Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, a luxury lifestyle resort nestled within the Mayakoba destination in Mexico, is delighted to announce the opening of their new beach restaurant Sotavento. Inspired by a shipwreck that washed up on the Mayakoba shore, Sotavento, which means “where the wind takes you”, offers a casual and relaxing environment for guests to enjoy spectacular Caribbean beach views and fresh ocean breeze as they dine with their feet in the sand to the natural soundtrack of waves crashing and birds chirping in the background.

Sotavento, which is located on the resort’s expansive white sand beach, features a Mediterranean menu curated by Executive Chef Miguel Gomez including fresh seafood, daily chef specials, salads and appetizers and a variety of desserts. Diners can select from an array of crisp salads such as the Roasted Portobello with goat cheese cream and cherry tomatoes; the Mediterranean with mixed lettuces, cucumber, semi-confit tomatoes, black olives, cous-cous and anchovies; or the Niçoise Salad with mixed greens, herb crusted tuna, quail egg and Kalamata olives. An extensive seafood selection includes an array of fresh oysters prepared in different ways and grill specialties such as lobster tail, Mayan octopus, red snapper and grilled shrimp with garlic. Diners can also enjoy weekly specials prepared on the fire pit in the restaurant’s lounge where they can relax and sip cocktails while watching their meals being cooked on the charcoal grill. To end the meal on a sweet note, Sotavento offers a range of frozen dessert cups such as Orange Passion Cous Cous, Strawberry Meringue, Banana Chocolate and assorted ice cream and sorbets.

Guests can accompany their meal with an extensive beverage selection including draft beers, wine, Champagne and tropical cocktails such as the Nao Bubbly, named after the first ship that traveled around the world and made with lavender syrup, St. Germain, lemon and sparkling wine; the Barba Roja Pepper, a limited edition cocktail served in a pepper with Morron pepper syrup, sparkling wine, lemon, coconut rum and passion fruit; and the Sotavento 260 with aperol, rum, angostura, lemon, oleo saccurum syrup and pumpkin syrup.

We are excited to introduce this unique feet-in-the-sand restaurant concept at Andaz Mayakoba and believe it is a great addition to our existing diverse culinary offerings,” said Executive Chef Miguel Gomez. “We carefully curated the menu to deliver a casual yet authentic Mediterranean, seafood-forward culinary experience and want to provide a space where guests can sit back, relax and enjoy their meal while savoring the stunning ocean surroundings. With the opening of Sotavento, we are thrilled to deliver an incredible dining experience, activate the senses and inspire magical memories and moments.”

Sotavento, which is open for lunch and dinner daily from 11:00 am to 10:30 pm, smoothly transitions from a relaxed, sun-soaked daytime venue with views of sparkling turquoise waters to a memorable evening experience enhanced with beautiful sunsets, live entertainment curated by resident DJ Jared Dietch, soft lighting from overhead string lights and a light sea breeze. The décor is vibrant and casual with colorful furniture, comfortable seating, a cozy fire pit and chic accents. Sotavento seats 52 people in the restaurant and 28 in the lounge area.
